EDS-Excel Delivery Systems family of companies opened for business in 1980 as Package Express! Package Express began servicing Houston as a courier and messenger service throughout the 80’s and early 90’s. We overcame the challenges of the 80’s and increased our customers’ satisfaction level by developing a solid operational model. Our model has helped us retain the small company can do attitude but with the big company resources to better meet our customers’ needs.
Package Express also began developing a successful process to acquire and integrate other delivery services into our operational model. We began implementing the process in the early 1990’s with the acquisition of Quick Pack, Quik Trak, RW Couriers, Campbell’s Courier, and Zapp Messenger. Every acquisition and merger brought with them the opportunity to utilize the best parts and processes of the new companies operations and integrate them into the Package Express model. The management team and employees were eager for change and growth. New teams were created and existing teams reorganized and given more responsibility for increased customer service satisfaction and continued growth.
In 2002 the opportunity to acquire another successful Houston delivery company became available; the acquisition of Excel Delivery Service. This transaction would almost double the size of our Company and bring with it a very successful sales staff and a client base which fit well with Package Express. The merger of Package Express’s proficient operational model with a successful sales staff rapidly propelled Package Express’s growth for the next few years. The owner of Excel Delivery stayed on and joined Package Express’s management team as the Director of Sales & Marketing.
Another great opportunity emerged with the purchase of another successful delivery service in 2006. Bayou City Express had a significant amount of business, and experience, in the warehousing and distribution segment of the freight industry. This acquisition has helped Package Express develop regional distribution systems in Southeast Texas and Oklahoma and will also further enhance our capability to service more of our client’s logistical needs. The owner of Bayou City also joined the Package Express management team as the VP of Operations.
Throughout our growth we have been able to remain focused on our customer’s success. We have also strived to continuously improve our processes, our principles, and our people. Arising from these improvements is the development of a new brand name combining the family of companies: EDS-Excel Delivery Systems, which will help us to navigate the fast paced changes in our industry.
